SMI Air Force One Braking System Installation - 2017 Chevrolet Colorado

Today on our 2017 Chevrolet Colorado, we'll be taking a look at the SMI Air Force One supplemental braking system as part of a complete flat tow setup. We will also be using Roadmaster's EZ5 baseplate kit, Roadmaster's universal high power diode wiring kit, Roadmaster's battery disconnect kit, and Roadmaster's Nighthawk all-terrain non-binding tow bars. This supplemental braking system is going to give you truly proportional braking on your towed vehicle using the air supply from your motor home. The air umbilical cord connected between your motor home and your vehicle's going to provide that air to the units installed on the vehicle that will activate the cylinder applying the brake pedal. You'll have a safety breakaway switch as well in case of a catastrophic disconnect. This will pull the pin, applying the brakes on your vehicle to help it come to a safe stop.As you can see here, when I pull the pin it's going to apply the brake pedal. When you're normally driving the vehicle, pressing the brakes in your motor home, it's going to apply the brakes here on your vehicle to help it stop along with your motor home. more

SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Braking System Installation - 2019 Chevrolet Equinox

Speaker 1: Today on our 2019 Chevrolet Equinox, we're going to be installing SMI Stay-in-Play Duo supplemental braking system, part number SM99251. With the Stay-in-Play Duo, you'll get proportional braking in your vehicle whenever you hit the brake pedal in your RV. It does this using an inertia switch inside the towed vehicle so it knows how quickly you want to stop. When you're ready to stop your vehicle and you slam on the brakes, the actuator in your vehicle will also stop your vehicle. The actuator on the towed vehicle will apply the brake on the towed vehicle. One of the greatest features about this system is that it's all built into the vehicle once it's installed. So you don't have to put in other systems that apply your brake that you have to remove every time you want to get in and out of the vehicle and use it. more

Today on our 2016 Chevrolet Equinox, you're going to be taking a look at, and I'm going to show you how to install the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System, part number SM99251.The SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO is going to be a proportional braking system. What that means is when you apply the brakes in the RV, the system you have installed in the car is going to apply the brakes in the Equinox. Now, let's go a little bit deeper than that. When you touch your brakes in your RV, lightly touch them, the brakes in your car are going to match that amount of pressure. If you have to slam on your brakes in your RV, maybe an emergency situation, the system is going to apply the same amount of force in your Equinox so that your car or your towed vehicle slows itself down. Your RV is not going to have to do all the work.So once you have your car hooked up to your RV, what you're going to do is you're going to come down to your g-force controller. You're going to turn it on. more

Here's what the Blue Ox Patriot II looks like installed. The reason you're going to want a supplemental braking system such as the Patriot II is because many states require you have one if you're flat-towing your vehicle. The Patriot II also sets itself apart from other options out there because this is a portable unit. If you own multiple vehicles that you want tow on different occasions, you only need one braking system to go in between them. You can simply take this out of one car and put it in the other without any issues. It'll save you time save you money. This is a proportional unit as well. more

What that means is while we are traveling, when we apply our brakes in our RV, our braking system in our towed vehicle will match the amount of force being applied. That will allow our towed vehicle to stop on its own, rather than the RV stopping both vehicles, in turn, saving the brakes on the RV.Now, we're going to go over how to get your Air Force One installed on your towed vehicle. This is going to work with air or air over hydraulic brakes and it is proportional. Part number is RM-9160. The Roadmaster Brakemaster is going to be the perfect solution for your supplemental braking needs when towing your vehicle behind your RV. We have a cylinder mounted in the floorboard of the vehicle that actually presses on the brake pedal any time we hit the brakes inside of our motor home. This is designed to work with air brakes or air over hydraulic brakes, giving us lots of options on different coaches we can install it on. Of all the braking systems I have installed that actually mount into the vehicle semi-permanently such as this one, it is one of the easier ones to do. We've only got one air line to run inside and one wire. more

Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit Installation - 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche

Today in our 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche we're going to take a look at and show you how to install the Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit, part number RM-88400. Here's what our relay kit's going to look like when we lay it out of our package. Our relay is designed to stop the brake signal coming from your towed vehicle from going to the bulb to the back when the ignition is off. That allows for our RV's blinker to blink through the lights on the back of the truck and indicate any turns that we're going to be making. With the other brake. With the other brake light relay, when you hit the brakes in your motor home, and you have your blinker on, it overrides it and that blinking's going to stop and you're just going to have that brake light come through, which is illegal and also unsafe. more

SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Braking System Installation - 2017 Chevrolet Spark- Video

SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Braking System Installation - 2017 Chevrolet Spark

Today, on our 2017 Chevrolet Spark, we'll be installing the SMI Stay-IN-Play Dual supplemental braking system, part number SM99251. What I like about the SMI Stay-IN-Play Duo is that it's a permanent installation in the car, I don't have to worry about getting down on my knees at a muddy campground site to hook up a box that sits in front of my seat. Also, I like the fact that this unit will work on all motor homes. Even though it's an air operated unit, I don't have to worry about my motor home having air brakes in order to use it. I can use it on anything that has an electrical tow package wiring on the back of it. I don't have to have something with a brake controller on it or something with air brakes. It'll work on any motor home out there. Being a proportional braking system, what that means is that if the brakes are applied in the RV a little bit, the brakes will be applied a little bit as well on the car to match. more

Blue Ox Patriot Proportional Braking System Installation - 2007 Chevrolet HHR

Today on our 2007 Chevrolet HHR we'll be installing a Blue Ox Patriot radio frequency portable braking system, part number BRK2012. This is a truly proportional unit. What that means is it'll slow down in conjunction with the motorhome in a direct relationship, so if you slow down for a little bit of pressure in the motorhome, the car will slow down with a little bit of pressure too. Now, we can adjust the level of braking intensity with our unit off this knob here, so if you want to have more aggressive brakes you can turn the knob all the way up to nine. That'll be the most pressure. If you don't want to have a lot of pressure, you could turn it down all the way to zero. Right in the middle, though, at five is a great place to start with, especially with this vehicle. Now, if you want to adjust it inside your motorhome, you can do that too with the wireless controller here. more

SMI Air Force One Braking System Installation - 2016 Chevrolet Equinox

Today on our 2016 Chevrolet Equinox, we're going to be taking a look at and installing the SMI Air Force One supplemental braking system for motor homes with air brakes, part number SM99243. Here's what the Air Force One is going to look like once it's installed on the vehicle. As you can see, everything is nice and compact and up out of the way so it's not in the way of the driver's seat at all. It's going to be permanently installed so that this air cylinder will be the only thing in the brake pedal and you won't have to take anything or out in order to press the brake pedal. The air cylinder is pulled down by a cable mounted to the firewall and it uses the pressure from the air brakes to depress it. This is a proportional braking system, so the harder you apply the brakes in the motor home, the harder it will apply the brakes in the towed vehicle. The system comes with a breakaway switch and when you pull the breakaway switch, it will activate the brakes on the towed vehicle and that way if your vehicle ever comes disconnected from the motor home, it will pull it safely to a stop. more

SMI Air Force One Braking System Installation - 2016 Chevrolet Traverse

Today on our 2016 Chevrolet Traverse we're going to be taking a look at and installing the SMI Air Force One supplemental breaking system for motorhomes with air brakes and it's a proportional breaking system part number SM99243. Here's what the Air Force one's going to look like once it's installed on the vehicle. We've got the air cylinder here that's mounted to the arm of our break pedal. What it's going to is allow this to serve as your supplemental breaking system so that the breaks can be applied in the towed vehicle as it's being towed behind your motorhome. It functions using pressurized air from the airbrake system on the motorhome. This system is really nice because unlike some systems that are portable that you can switch between vehicles, if you have one vehicle that you're planning on towing behind your motorhome on a regular basis, this is going to be a permanent install and that way whenever you've got your vehicle in tow mode you just have to hook your airline and cable up to the break-away switch and once you've got your vehicle completely hooked up to your motorhome, you're ready to roll. You don't have to take the time to make sure everything's set up properly. From inside the motorhome it has a monitor light that on this one has been mounted on the dash, you can also mount it on the back of the rear view mirror if you'd like, whatever the most convenient for you, you can see that when the breaks are applied in the motorhome, that monitor light will come on to let you know that the breaks in your towed vehicle are being applied. That monitor light can be seen through the camera on the rear of your motorhome. The Air Force One is a proportional breaking system so the harder you apply the breaks inside your motorhome, the harder it will apply the breaks inside your towed vehicle. Now let's show you how to install this unit. more

Today on our 2014 Chevrolet Sonic, we're going to be taking a look at and installing the Blue Ox Patriot Radio Frequency portable braking system, part number BRK2012. Here's what the Patriot is going to look like once it's installed in the vehicle. As you can see it clamps on to the brake pedal and rests against the front edge of the driver's seat. This braking system is nice, because it works wirelessly from the motor home to the vehicle, and it's a proportional braking system, so however much force you apply to the brakes in the motor home it will apply that same amount of force to the brakes in the towed vehicle. This unit does have a 12-volt outlet on it so if there's something else that you may need to have plugged in, here inside the vehicle while it's being towed you can plug it in to the socket that's on the Patriot box without having to add an extra 12-volt outlet. For our controller here, is what goes inside the motor home and you plug it in and then this will show you what your gain is, and you can adjust your gain on here, as well as on the Patriot box itself. It will give you the same lights to let you know that the unit is on, that the break-away switch is plugged in and working. more
